Meet The Team

EClass Outboards was founded by Ron Kelly and Lynelle Johnson, two Australians united by a deep respect for the water and a belief that marine performance and environmental responsibility should go hand in hand. As lifelong boat lovers, Ron and Lynelle recognised that the future of boating required more than incremental change — it required a fundamentally different approach to how outboards are designed, built and used.

Drawing on decades of practical experience, curiosity and problem-solving, they set out to create electric outboards that deliver real power without compromising the environments that make boating possible. Under their leadership, EClass developed a performance-driven electric solution that prioritises reliability, simplicity and impact, including innovative repower technology that extends the life of existing outboards and significantly reduces waste.

Designed, assembled and largely manufactured in Australia, EClass reflects Ron and Lynelle’s commitment to local innovation, Australian conditions and practical outcomes. Their work extends beyond product development, supporting communities where access to affordable, clean marine power can be genuinely life-changing. Together, Ron Kelly and Lynelle Johnson continue to guide EClass Outboards with a clear purpose: to redefine marine propulsion through intelligent design, meaningful environmental action and an uncompromising boating experience.

All products by EClassboats are designed, and tested in Kiama, NSW Australia.

Director Lynelle Johnson is a businesswoman who has previously founded several successful businesses. She loves the outdoors and is happiest when she is on or by the water.

Our innovator Ron Kelly originally trained as an automotive engineer and then became a boatbuilder with decades of experience.

He has built and raced speedboats, sailed two Sydney to Hobart Yacht races in his own yacht, was an accredited Surf Lifesaving Australia manufacturer and took up competitive Stillwater rowing in his later years. He has been working on the development of powerful and portable electric outboards for the past 10 years.

Our quality of product and diverse range allows us to cater for all forms of rescue crafts as well as clients who want to sustainably cruise and fish whilst enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

EClass Outboards is a proud member of the Maritime Emissions Reduction Coalition (MERC), aligning with industry, government and research leaders to accelerate maritime decarbonisation. Being part of MERC supports our commitment to practical innovation, collaboration and delivering real emissions reduction across Australia’s marine sector.
